Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.
The September issue of Write Angles has news from CWC’s Central Board; lots of photos from CWC’s annual picnic; a tribute to one of our members who recently died; an article from our past president, Al Levenson; a call for submissions; and information about our upcoming speaker, Brooke Warner.
And be sure to see the article about the upcoming writing conference at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum. The conference director is our very own Charlotte Cook. It sounds like a lot of fun.

CWC, Joaquin Miller Park, litcake, picnic, writers' club
In lieu of a general meeting in July, the Berkeley Branch of the CWC invites members to welcome our colleagues from all over California to our own historic Joaquin Miller Park.
As the legend of the 1909 founding of CWC goes, Joaquin Miller used to invite his writing friends, including Jack London, Gertrude Stein, and John Muir to his home for picnics, literary discussions, and bohemian theatrics in the flat area that is now the Fire Circle. In the 1930s the CWC helped to create Joaquin Miller Park as it is today.
The picnic, open to all CWC members and their guests, combines eating, reading, networking, camaraderie and our popular “Lit Cake” competition! The festivities begin with a potluck picnic. CWC will provide hot dogs and hamburgers. Please bring a side dish to share and your own beverages. Feel free to participate in our Open Mic and Literary Cake Decorating Contest!

The Berkeley branch doesn’t meet until September, but we can still get together for food and fun. The annual CWC picnic invites members from all over California to gather at Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland.
Bring a side dish to share and don’t forget about the literary baking contest. You will not be judged on the taste of your baked goods, just the literary cleverness attached. Not to brag, but I tied for first place at last year’s picnic. (Okay, so there were only two entries…) Here’s my version of the very hungry caterpillar.
I hope to see you there!
