Sail into 2023 writing strong with SIX+++ January Events with the CWC!
We’re starting our new year with a gust of energy! Here’s what you want to know about what’s happening with the Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club! All of our members should try to make it to one or more of these events—let’s get networked, connected, and focused on our writing goals! If you’re not a member yet, this is a great time to join with our half-year membership special!
January 14th from 11am – 5pm: Write In @ OMCA
Check out our monthly write-in at the Oakland Museum of California! Bring your laptop, order food and/or coffee in the Town Café, and find a spot to catch some inspiration and get some work done. There are tables and chairs on every level, and if you want to take a break and see some exhibits you can grab a locker. Optional gathering at 3pm each month to read out our work. The public is welcome! Tickets are free on Eventbrite, but you can also just show up.
January 14th from 5:00 – 8:00: Winter Social
The holidays may be over but it’s still winter! Come and socialize with Zachary’s pizza, potluck wine and desserts, and our annual open mic at Dolce Vita Gondola under the Lake Chalet after the Write-in. This is a party for members, but personal guests are welcome. Registration links in the latest Write Angles —check your email!
January 15th 1:00pm – 3:00pm: Speaker Series featuring Gail Carriger
We’ve booked a very exciting speaker to kick off the year, which started with a look at the Hero’s Journey. Gail Carriger, NYT bestselling author of a series of cheeky series, many involving vampires, parasols, or poison—and always tea. But she’s also written The Heroine’s Journey, which will give all writers a new way to conceptualize the intwined fates of plot and character. Get your ticket post haste or stop by and read all the details first.
January 16th 8:30am – 3:30pm: Day of Writing Service
“Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As part of Oakland’s citywide day of service, our Writer in Residence is hosting a day of writing in service at Joaquin Miller Park. As writers, we serve others with our ideas, our inspiration, and our guidance. This event creates space for those needing to work on the literary aspects of our service projects. Join us at the Ranger Station in Joaquin Miller Park, or virtually. Check in about what you are working on, take a break to take a walk, and share your writing at the end of the day. More info here.
