“Learning from Leonardo” with Fritjof Capra on November 17th

Leonardo da Vinci, the great master painter and genius of the Renaissance, has been the subject of hundreds of scholarly and popular books. However, there are surprisingly few books about Leonardo’s science. Moreover, many authors who have discussed his scientific work have looked at it through Newtonian lenses, which has often prevented them from understanding its essential nature.

In this lecture, Fritjof Capra will present a novel interpretation of Leonardo’s science–from the perspective of twenty-first-century scientific thought. Studying Leonardo from this perspec- tive allows us to appreciate his unique synthesis of science and art, and the great relevance of his legacy to our time.

Fritjof Capra, Ph.D., physicist and system theorist, is the author of seven international bestsellers, including The Tao of Physics, The Web of Life and The Hidden Connections. His new book, Learning from Leonardo is being published by Berrett-Koehler and is coming out in November 2013. He is a founding director of the Center for Ecoliteracy in Berkeley. He is on the faculty of the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program of UC Berkeley and also teaches at Schumacher College, an international center for ecological studies in England.
