CWC Annual Showcase LIVE @ CLIOS BOOKS June 17, 2023
This June, we’re doubly excited to be doing a LIVE author showcase this year, and to be doing it at a soon-to-launch bookstore in the heart of Oakland! This annual event gives us the opportunity to celebrate our members who have published books in the past 2 years. We all work hard to get our writing out in the world and having a new book is a tremendous accomplishment!
The Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club is proud to recognize and celebrate its eleven members who have published new books in 2022 & 2023. Congratulations to:
- Beth Barany, Red Running Deep (Firewolf Books, 2022)
- Jim Brosnahan, Justice at Trial (Roman Littelfield, 2023)
- Kristen Caven, The Winning Family: Where No One Has to Lose (Uplift Press, 2022)

The event will be co-hosted by Clio’s Books, a new bookstore that will be opening in September near Oakland’s Lake Merritt. Clio’s values the history of ideas and will feature a reading room, literary events, and a café.
The California Writers Club (www.calwriters.org) is a thriving association of emerging and professional writers, with 20+ branches across the state. Each branch features monthly speakers on the art, craft, and business of writing in all genres, for all ages and abilities. The Club was formed in 1909 by Bay Area writers who had gathered for decades in Joaquin Miller Park. They were instrumental in building the WPA Woodminster Cascade, which is home to the California Writers Memorial Grove.

THE CALIFORNIA WRITERS CLUB was started by a group of writing professionals in the early 1900s. The Berkeley Branch is the founding branch of the statewide Club, which now has 19 branches and around 2000 members throughout California. We are the third oldest writers’ club in the country, currently celebrating our 100th year serving Bay Area writers.
The CWC is a nonprofit professional organization open to writers in every genre and at every level of experience, from novice to published. Our purpose is to promote fellowship and to provide practical information that supports all members in achieving their publishing goals.
We offer or have offered meetings, speakers support/critique groups, a newsletter, writing contests, a chapbook, readings, and workshops.
