On the Third Sunday in September the Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club Welcomes the Literary Agent who once Owned Cody’s Books
Our speaker series returns on Sunday, September 20th with Oakland literary agent Andy Ross. Ross will detail the steps you need to take before beginning work with a literary agent. Ross will help you determine whether your project is right for commercial publishers and he’ll explain how to write effective query letters and book proposals. You’ll learn how to research the best agent for your book. He’ll even go over how agents negotiate book contracts.

About Andy Ross
Andy Ross is a literary agent in Oakland. Prior to becoming an agent he was the owner of the legendary Cody’s Books in Berkeley for 30 years. Ross represents books in a wide range of non-fiction genres including: narrative non-fiction, science, journalism, history, popular culture, memoir, and current events . He also represents literary, commercial, historical, crime, upmarket women’s fiction, and YA fiction.
Authors Ross represents include: Daniel Ellsberg, Susan Griffin, Fritjof Capra, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, Gwen Strauss, Mark Goldblatt, Anjanette Delgado, Elisa Kleven, Tawni Waters, Randall Platt, Mary Jo McConahay, Gerald Nachman, Michael Parenti, Paul Krassner, Milton Viorst, and Michele Anna Jordan.
Ross is the author of The Literary Agent’s Guide to Writing a Non-fiction Book Proposal. As well as being an agent, Andy also works as a literary consultant and freelance editor for writers not represented by the agency.

THE CALIFORNIA WRITERS CLUB was started by a group of writing professionals in the early 1900s. The Berkeley Branch is the founding branch of the statewide Club, which now has 19 branches and around 2000 members throughout California. We are the third oldest writers’ club in the country, currently celebrating our 100th year serving Bay Area writers.
The CWC is a nonprofit professional organization open to writers in every genre and at every level of experience, from novice to published. Our purpose is to promote fellowship and to provide practical information that supports all members in achieving their publishing goals.
