“A Reading in the Redwoods” & Open Mic with Ayodele Nzinga, 10/21/22

The third week of every October is California Writers Week, and this year our community event features Oakland’s first Poet Laureate, Ayodele “Wordslanger” Nzinga, who accepted an honorary membership to the CWC at last year’s historic celebration of California writers, From Ina to Ayodele.

At that event, we celebrated the restoration of the water feature in the Woodminster Cascade, although unfortunately, a technical obstacle kept the fountain and hillside creek dry. A year to the date later, the water finally began flowing after more than a decade! Our reading will take place at the top of the Cascade, near the rear entrance to the theater.

At this location, two very redwood trees stand overlooking both the theater and the Bay. This is where we will begin our program, which will end with a very special announcement. Many do not know that this grove of redwoods was planted when the cascades were built, honoring California writers.
