On Monday, August 23 from 7:00-9:00PM, 826 Valencia presents an Adult Writers’ Seminar on DIY Publishing and Marketing. Oscar Villalon will moderate a panel composed of Steve Almond, Stephen Elliott, and Chelsea Martin. The panelists will discuss all things related to do-it-yourself publishing and marketing, including but not limited to life with and without a literary agent, promoting your own writing, and the way new media and changes in the publishing industry can affect the ways you publish and sell your work.
The cost of the seminar is $50. All proceeds directly benefit free student programming at 826 Valencia.
To sign up, visit the Pirate Supply Store at 826 Valencia Street, or call 415.642.5905 x210. You may also sign up online at http://www.826valencia.org/workshops/adult.

Join us on Thursday, August 26, as we host our first-ever 8/26 Day Write-a-thon! From 12 noon until 8:26 PM, we’re going to write until our pencils break, our pens run out of ink, our fingers fall off, and our computers crash. And you? You should join us.
Not only the most extraordinary, productive, and glorious eight hours and twenty-six minutes of writing San Francisco has ever seen, this Write-a-thon is also fundraiser. Our ambitious, inspired, industrious writers will recruit their friends, family members, housemates, and hairdressers to pledge to support them in their writing goal, be it two poems or 200 pages. Pledge to support your favorite writer, or come join in the whirlwind of activity as we collectively generate an as-yet unknowable number of pages (and dollars, too).
This event is open to students, 826 Valencia volunteers, and the public. To sign up to participate, please email writeathon@826valencia.org. All proceeds will benefit free student programming at 826 Valencia.

Moderator Joe Loya (The Man Who Outgrew His Prison Cell) will lead our expert panelists Ayelet Waldman (Bad Mother), Belle Yang (Hannah Is My Name), Katie Boyle (literary agent), Tony DuShane (Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk), and Rachel Resnick (Love Junkie) in a conversation on how to turn your personal experience into publishable prose. In addition to reflecting on the writing process, the panelists will address issues related to the publishing aspects of writing, such as contacting agents and working with publishing houses. This evening is a hands-on affair. No details will be spared; all pertinent secrets will be revealed.
The cost of the seminar $100. To sign up, visit the Pirate Supply Store at 826 Valencia Street or call 415-642-5905 x210. You may also sign up online at http://www.826valencia.org/workshops/adult. All proceeds directly benefit free student programming at 826 Valencia.
